Dereck Chisora's trainer David Haye has fired a warning to Oleksandr Usyk that he will be facing the best version of 'WAR' that has been seen yet and believes that he has had the best preparation of his career to go one step further and defeat the Ukranian.
Chisora has often fallen at the last hurdle during his professional heavyweight career losing to the likes of Dillian Whyte and Tyson Fury, but has shown more promise and aggression in recent wins over David Price and Artur Szpilka.
Chisora begun working with former rival David Haye back in 2018 and they are both motivated to take the Ukranian into the deepest waters he has ever faced on just his second fight in the heavyweight division after taking the step up as undisputed cruiserweight champion.
Haye has given his verdict on the preparations that Chisora has taken for the fight and believes that he is more prepared and motivated than ever to deliver victory against the speed and boxing intelligence of Usyk.
He told talkSPORT: “He’s as good as he has ever been before, he’s been working with myself for two years now since his Dillian Whyte loss, which was a fight he was winning. He got knocked out in the 11th round but, since that fight, he has fought Senad Gashi, he’s fought Artur Szpilka, he’s fought David Price and he has performed better and better.
“He’s had full training camps for all of those fights and within those training camps he has done more and more training, culminating in a yearlong gap since his last fight in October 2019.He’s had a year to work on this specific fight to fight arguably one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet in any weight division.
“Any expert would have Usyk in their top five, pound-for-pound of all boxers and Derek needs to be having a perfect training camp. Anything less, he hasn’t got a shot."
The former cruiserweight also admitted that Chisora had always held energy and effort in reserve in previous training camps, but feels that 'Del Boy' has given maximum effort and energy to prepare as best as possible to spring a shock on the #3 ranked heavyweight by the WBO.
“Any other training camp he has had coming in to this fight would not have been enough; he would not have been fit enough, he wouldn’t have been fast enough, he wouldn’t have had the right mindset – physically or mentally, no doubt.
“So I’m so happy that he has given himself to the team, to the training programme, fully. He hasn’t held anything back.In the past, he kind of held back 15 or 20 per cent of his energy and he always conserved a little bit for ‘tomorrow’. But now I know he has given everything to us. So we are going to go into the ring on Saturday night with him fully charged, fully fired up and motivated.
“He is going to be as good as Derek Chisora can possibly be and he is going to need to be because he has an excellent opponent in front of him.”
