Daniel Dubois dismisses party rumours as an excuse for Oleksandr Usyk defeat: "It worked with AJ"

Dubois fell at the final hurdle on his quest to sit atop the heavyweight division.

Beating Usyk was always going to be a tough ask, but on the day, Dubois looked miles off the pace.

His jab - normally one of his most dangerous weapons - looked sluggish, his feet looked heavy, and he found himself chasing shadows as an elusive Usyk beat him to the punch time and time again.

Eventually, it was too much and Usyk found the stoppage blow - a stunning left hook in the fifth.

Following the defeat, a video began circulating showcasing Dubois attending what looked like a house party just hours before he stepped foot in the square circle.

Understandably, the clip went viral with many questioning the decision.

However, in a recent interview with TalkSport , DDD has stressed that his unusual pre-fight routine had no impact on the outcome of the fight.

“No, it worked with AJ and Anthony’s not that bad. I don’t even want to talk on that too much. That’s not why anything went wrong in the fight. I look to myself and look to what I could’ve done better and things like that. But, yeah, it worked the first time with AJ so it’s a whole new beginning for me moving forward now where I’ve got to change and get it right.”

Dubois also spoke on his decision to split with Don Charles and the rumours surrounding his new trainer.

“Looking back, Don’s been great for me, we won a world title together. But I just thinking about looking forward and how I can improve myself and, yeah, that was my decision.”

“I’m willing to give it everything I’ve got, everything I’ve got left now at this stage of my career and become two-time heavyweight champion of the world. That’s my goal. I’m willing to do anything to get to that.”

Asked on whether Tony Sims is next in line as trainer, the Brit chose to keep his cards close to his chest.

“I can’t say for now, to be honest. I can’t say for now. I need to sit down and talk with my team first properly about everything, how the structure’s going to be, but there will be an announcement soon on that for sure.”
