Conor Benn closes in on WBC world title as he prepares to face either Ryan Garcia or Mario Barrios

“Garcia vs Benn - I like the sound of that”

Conor Benn (24-1, 14 KO’s) believes the WBC welterweight title will be his in the near future, as he gears up to take on the best from across the pond. 

Conor Benn ended his feud with Chris Eubank Jr. (35-4, 25 KO’s) in November, when he finally got the better of his bitter rival in a rematch of their April showdown. 

He is now looking to use the win to catapult him onto bigger and better things as he continues to chase a maiden world title. 

He currently sits as the mandatory challenger for the WBC welterweight title, which is currently held by Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KO’s). 

Barrios is due to take on social media sensation Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KO’s) in Las Vegas on February 21, and the Briton is expected to have first dibs on the winner. 

"Listen, I said I would be WBC champion, it was always the dream, so to be within touching distance and be made mandatory for the WBC world title, I'll be there ring side and I want the winner," Benn told Sky Sports.

Benn admitted that he sees Garcia as the favourite and would love the opportunity to test himself against the pay-per-view star. 

"No doubt it will be Garcia. Garcia vs Benn - I like the sound of that."

Dalton Smith recently got one up over the Americans, as the British super lightweight champion got his hands on his maiden world title following a fifth-round stoppage win against Subriel Matias in Brooklyn, New York, on January 10. 

Speaking on his countryman's performance, Benn was full of praise and admitted that while he would love to take on America, he is hoping to challenge for the WBC strap in his homeland. 

"There's something great about what Dalton Smith did, so I'd love to do it in Las Vegas but I feel like I'll bring it here to the UK for the supporters.

"Another stadium fight sounds good, doesn't it?"
