Undefeated Kazakh Meiirim Nursultanov is getting his golden opportunity by challenging solid Dominican monarch Carlos “El Caballo Bronco” Adames for the WBC Middleweight Championship.

The Green and Gold Leadership has officially ordered both camps to begin free negotiations, setting October 20, 2026, as the deadline to reach an agreement. If a deal is not finalised within the allotted timeframe, the WBC will call for a purse bid to award the promotional rights for the fight.

The path to this long-awaited matchup accelerated directly following the unfortunate withdrawal of the division’s interim champion, American Jesus Ramos, who was unable to compete in the scheduled fight at San Diego’s Pechanga Arena due to health reasons.

Under these circumstances, the WBC applied its rules and granted Nursultanov the direct right as the division’s official mandatory contender.

Carlos Adames (25-1-1, 18 KOs): The dynamic Dominican born champion enters this commitment firmly established on the 160-pound throne following a successful decision defense against highly touted American prospect Austin “Ammo” Williams in Orlando, Florida. Meiirim Nursultanov (20-0, 11 KOs): The 33-year-old undefeated Kazakh earned his mandatory challenger status the hard way back in November 2023 with a decisive victory over Chile’s Julio Álamos. Despite the long layoff away from the squared circle, Nursultanov has maintained constant physical preparation while awaiting the final call to fulfill his dream of becoming a world champion.
