Carl Froch breaks down Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao rematch

Carl Froch has high hopes for the hotly anticipated affair

Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) are set to run back their legendary, yet ultimately slightly flat 2015 affair.

Billed the ‘Fight of the Century’, their maiden meeting saw Mayweather cruise to a relatively comfortable decision victory. However, things might pan out differently this time round.

Scheduled for September 26 in The Sphere, Las Vegas, the bout will see Pacquiao attempt to get one back over his former foe.

While Mayweather has kept himself in top shape, ‘Pac-Man’ has enjoyed professional success during his recent ring comeback.

Most recently, he salvaged a draw over then world-champion Mario Barrios - and many had him the deserving Victor after their twelve-round affair.

Mayweather, on the other hand, has not boxed as a professional since 2017, outpointing and eventually dispatching MMA superstar Conor McGregor to see the former world champion move to 50-0 as a professional.

He has since stayed active, pursuing multiple exhibition bouts, with a few more scheduled for this year.

Despite both men being on the wrong side of Father Time, former world champion Carl Froch feels that this bout may have more oomph than their 2015 affair.

“This fight’s probably a little bit more exciting than their first fight, because Mayweather’s still unbeaten – he still keeps himself active [in the gym] – but Manny Pacquiao has just gone 12 rounds and got a draw with Barrios,” Froch told his YouTube channel.

“So Manny Pacquiao can obviously still fight a little bit. Mayweather has got to be careful because, if he gets beat, he’s lost that unbeaten record, and that would be a little stain on his legacy. He’s one of the all-time greats.”
