Canelo aims to become fourth Mexican four-weight champion against Kovalev

“Canelo's” light heavyweight baptism of fire vs “Krusher” this Saturday

Multiple world champion Saul “Canelo” Álvarez fights formidable WBO light heavyweight world champion  Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, this Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight is organized by Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events, and will be broadcast by DAZN.

“Canelo” Álvarez is the icon of world boxing today with great performances and achievements inside the ring.

“Canelo”, who's king of the middleweight division, will take a huge risk this Saturday against Kovalev, the reigning WBO light heavyweight champ. In May, Alvarez defeated 'Miracle Man' Daniel Jacobs by points in a thriller of a fight. And although it was long rumored that his next contest would be against rival and fearsome Kazakh Gennady Golovkin, to complete their incredible trilogy, Saul decided to take on Kovalev’s challenge instead, intent on making history.

For Alvarez, it will be the sixteenth world championship fight in his successful career, the first one at light heavyweight, while “Krusher” Kovalev will have his seventeenth title battle, all of them in the 175-pound category.

In August of last year, Kovalev was surprisingly defeated by Colombian Eleider Alvarez. But in the rematch last February, the Russian gained revenge and won on points. On August 24, “Krusher” defended the WBO title against unbeaten Brit Anthony Yarde, surviving a few scares to win by a late TKO, and despite the short respite, he did not hesitate to accept this battle against “Canelo” Álvarez.

The 29-year-old Mexican will enter the contest with a 52-1-2 record, with 35 knockouts, while Kovalev, 36, has an impressive record of 34-3-1, with 29 knockouts.

“Canelo” will try to become the fourth Mexican to win world championships in four different divisions. Erik Morales was the first to achieve it, followed by Juan Manuel Márquez and Jorge “Travieso” Arce.

But unlike these champions, “Canelo” would be the only Mexican fighter to gain the titles in the heavier divisions.

I want to give that gift to my trainers, my people, my fans, so that very day we  can all shout Viva México! “, said” Canelo “in a press conference.

Canelo vs. Kovalev is a 12-round fight for the WBO light heavyweight world title presented by Golden Boy, Main Events and Krusher Promotions. The event is sponsored by Tecate,  Hennessy “Never Stop. Never Settle” and Brand-New Grapefruit Crush, Knockout Flavor. +

The event will take place on Saturday, November 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live exclusively on DAZN. The title showdown is one of several highlights of this season of fights in DAZN: a complete fall with the biggest boxing matches in one of the best times in boxing history.
