Boxing events will return to Las Vegas from this weekend after Nevada state authorities lifted a combat sports ban

Top Rank to host first boxing event on June 9 in Las Vegas

Boxing has begun to look for alternatives to return amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Nevada Athletic Commission authorized the commencement of fights without an audience and with a strict sanitary protocol, giving the green light to two boxing evenings, presented by Bob Arum and his company Top Rank .

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everything was suspended in mid-March in Las Vegas. Now its world-famous hotels and casinos will begin opening in June with regulations on physical distance and limitation of people.

The first boxing event is expected to be a Top Rank promotion on June 9. In the main boxing event, undefeated American featherweight Shakur Stevenson (13-0, 7KOs) is expected to face Puerto Rican Félix Caraballo (13-1-2, 9KOs).

Subsequently, Top Rank plans to hold events every Tuesday and Thursday until June 25 with quality boxers, including Jessie Magdaleno, Joshua Greer, José Pedraza, Christopher Díaz and Alex Saucedo.

All events will take place behind closed doors as part of measures to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The first MMA event is this Saturday's UFC card at the Apex, headlined by Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns' welterweight match.

Combat sports had been suspended in the state since March 14.

UFC has already returned to action after an enforced hiatus with three behind-closed-doors events in Jacksonville, Florida.

All fights will feature protocols to limit the risk of coronavirus spreading.

In the United Kingdom, proposed measures before a planned July return to action have included trainers in fighters' corner wearing protective masks and no ring announcers or ring girls, with a maximum number of five fights allowed.
