Battle for welterweight supremacy in China

The talk of the town. The one to watch. Both statements ring true for this weekend’s hotly-anticipated matchup between Kenbati Haiyilao and his compatriot, Youli Dong, where Kenbati puts his WBC Asian Boxing Council welterweight title on the line in a fight billed as the battle to be the number one welterweight boxer in China.

This fight being staged by our dear friends at SECA boxing promotions will reverberate beyond China as the winner will be a target for aspiring welterweight boxers throughout the greater Asian region. All eyes will be on Chinese coastal city of Qingdao, this coming Sunday night.

24-year old Kenbati — the reigning champion — having won the championship strap back in November of last year in a breakout performance against the much-fancied then champion, Nick Frese, from Thailand, winning the fight in emphatic fashion via a unanimous points decision, will be looking to make a successful first defense of his crown against a formidable opponent in Youli. Kenbat holds a pro record of six wins, two loses and one draw. He has not lost a fight since 2017.

Qingdao based Youli, a year older at 25-years, with a professional boxing record of sixteen wins, two loses and one draw goes into this contest on the back of a magnificent win over South Korean boxer In Duck Seo, earlier this year.

The burning question: will the the more experienced Youli outgun, outsmart and outbox the reigning champion Kenbati to claim the WBC Asian Boxing welterweight glory or can the champion prove that his win over Frese was the start of cementing his place at the top of the proverbial boxing tree in the greater Asia region. Sunday night in Qingdao will tell the story of who dares wins.
