Soliman faces Nagbe for Australasia title

47-year-old Soliman's opponent, Nagbe, is 20-years his junior

Australia’s outstanding super-welterweight veteran Sam Soliman (46-151, 19KOs) faces undefeated Victor Nagbe (3-0) for the WBC Australasia title at the Melbourne Pavilion on 10 July.

'King' Soliman, 47 from Melbourne, had a narrow loss against former WBC World super-middleweight champion Sako Bika (35-7-3, 22KOs) over eight-rounds in the Australian 'Fight of the Year' on March 31 and has been nominated for the Australian Boxing Hall of Fame that will be held later this year. It was a trilogy fight for this pair, as they first met in 2002, then again in 2007.

Sam had an amateur record of 84-11 and was an ISKA and WKA kickboxing champion before turning over. As a pro, he broke records by winning the Australia cruiserweight title in his second pro bout, then dropped down four divisions and fought for the Commonwealth title at super-welterweight in his third fight! At one point in his career, his record was 12-7, due to his willingness to take risks and fight anyone, which included world champions such as Anthony Mundine; Felix Sturm; Ronald 'Winky' Wright; Jermain Taylor. He won the IBF World middleweight title in 2014.

Australian boxing has embraced Nagbe who just two years ago turned full-time pro boxer after representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games.

A former kickboxing and muay-thai star on the world stage, Nagbe declined overtures from the UFC and has displayed impressive boxing talent during his successful transition into professional boxing.

Nagbe has won all of his pro boxing fight contests, including a win against an ANBF State champion. However, he touched down in his last fight, just nicking the win by a single point.
