Anthony Joshua involved in a fatal road traffic accident in Nigeria

Anthony Joshua has reportedly been involved in a fatal road traffic accident on Monday morning, December 29, in Ogun State, Nigeria. The incident is said to have left two people dead, with Joshua believed to have been shaken badly, but thankfully only sustaining minor injuries.

According to Nigerian outlet Najia News , a Lexus Jeep carrying AJ collided with a stationary truck in the city of Makun in Nigeria at approximately 11am local time on Monday morning. The collision occurred along a busy part of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by local authorities. ‘AJ’ had reportedly been travelling from Lagos to his family home.

An eyewitness, who took part in the rescue operation and spoke to Punch , disclosed that Joshua sustained minor injuries in the incident. Tragically, two people were pronounced dead at the scene.

His young son, JJ, was also reported by SecondsOut to have been a passenger in the car and is thankfully safe and well.

Although Joshua suffered only minor injuries in the accident, it has been confirmed two unnamed individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple videos on social media showed that Joshua had to be pulled from the vehicle and has since been transported to a local hospital, although the 36-year-old is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

As reported by The Mirror, a statement has now been released by the Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria:

“The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

“Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.”

Members of Joshua’s family have also spoken out and expressed their shock at the incident and have wished a speedy recovery to those who were involved in the tragic incident.
