British lightweight Aaron Prospere (13-1, 4 KOs) is gearing up for the most significant bout of his career as he challenges undefeated Ahmed Hatim (9-0, 3KO) for the Southern Area Lightweight Title on February 22, 2024, at Tolworth Recreation Centre.
This pivotal match also serves as an English Title Eliminator, positioning the victor for national championship contention.
The Southern Area Title has historically been a springboard for British fighters, with many past champions advancing to British, Commonwealth, and world-level bouts. For Prospere, this fight represents a crucial step in solidifying his standing within the domestic lightweight division.
"Winning this title means everything," says Prospere. "The belt has a long history, and those who win it often go on to great things in the sport. I've put everything into this camp to make sure I get my hand raised."
In preparation for this bout, Prospere has been training under the esteemed Martin Bowers at the Peacock Gym in Canning Town, London. Established in 1978, the Peacock Gym has a rich history of producing top-tier fighters, including former world heavyweight champion Frank Bruno and rising heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois.
"This has been my best camp to date," Prospere notes. "Training under Martin Bowers at the Peacock Gym, with its legacy of champions, has been an incredible experience. I'm leaving no stone unturned and going into this fight in the best shape of my life."
At 27 years old, Prospere has steadily climbed the domestic rankings. Growing up in Sutton, he first developed a passion for combat sports through judo, a discipline taught by his father, a black belt instructor. After excelling in amateur boxing, he transitioned into the professional ranks, earning an impressive 13-1 record along the way.
Previously signed to MTK Global, his sole career loss became a turning point, shaping his approach inside the ring.
"That fight taught me to box to my strengths and fully use the abilities I’ve been blessed with—to hit and not get hit. Since then, I’ve made big improvements, and I feel this is my time."
His path mirrors that of Dan Cassius Connor, the last Sutton-based fighter to win the Southern Area Title, who has been a key mentor in Prospere’s journey.
"Danny has been a great friend to me, going out of his way on occasions to make sure I can push forward in this sport. He’s always just a message away whenever I need advice."
Prospere’s career has been backed by Frank Godley, a premium British sportswear brand with a strong presence in football, rugby, padel, netball, and boxing. The Sutton-born brand has been a long-time supporter of his career, providing vital resources to help him focus on his boxing.
"Frank Godley came on board as one of my sponsors after my third or fourth fight, and what a sponsor they have been. They’ve supported me in and out of the ring, which makes my life as a fighter much easier. Having that kind of backing is priceless."
If victorious, Prospere will move one step closer to an English Title shot, further cementing his place in the UK lightweight division.
"This fight sets me up for the English Title and beyond," says Prospere. "I just have to handle business on February 22."
